Morocco’s Interior Minister Initiates Talks with Political Leaders on 2026 Legislative Elections

Rabat: Morocco’s Interior Minister has conducted two significant meetings with leaders of political parties concerning the upcoming legislative elections. These discussions are part of the immediate implementation of the High Guidelines of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, as outlined in the Throne Speech on July 29. The King announced that the next legislative elections would occur on their regular constitutional and legal date, emphasizing the necessity to establish and adopt the General System governing the electoral process for the House of Representatives before the end of the current year, as stated in a press release from the Ministry of the Interior.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, His Majesty the King tasked the Interior Minister with ensuring proper preparation for the upcoming legislative elections and initiating political consultations with various stakeholders. Leaders from different political parties expressed unanimous support for the High Royal Decision to commence preparations for the e
lections, appreciating the Royal approach that emphasizes consultation and constructive dialogue.

The meetings offered a platform to discuss critical issues related to the 2026 legislative elections’ general framework. The discussions occurred in a climate of responsibility and collective commitment to making the elections a pivotal moment in affirming the uniqueness of Morocco’s electoral model. This is aligned with the democratic principles under the wise leadership of His Majesty the King, who is the guarantor of the Kingdom’s democratic institutions.

Following the productive discussions, it was agreed that political parties would submit their proposals concerning the framework governing the 2026 legislative elections to the Ministry of the Interior by the end of August. This will allow for a thorough review and agreement on the legislative measures, which will be presented during the next autumn parliamentary session. The aim is to have these measures promulgated by the end of the year, adhering to the
Sovereign’s High Guidelines, as concluded in the press release.
