Stockholm: The Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, Abdellatif Hammouchi, conducted a working visit to Sweden on April 20-21, leading a high-level security delegation composed of senior officials. This visit was part of an initiative to strengthen relations of cooperation and coordination between Swedish security services and their Moroccan counterparts.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Hammouchi engaged in a series of discussions with several Swedish officials, including Minister of Justice Gunnar Str¶mmer, Swedish National Police Commissioner Petra Lundh, and Deputy National Police Commissioner Stefan Hector. These talks addressed common security concerns and explored mechanisms for joint approaches to emerging security threats at both regional and international levels.
At the culmination of these discussions, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the DGSN-DGST hub and the Swedish National Police, aiming to enhance the exchange of expertise and best practices in policing. This agreement sets clear procedures for information exchange, particularly concerning terrorism, extremism, organized crime, and other security threats.
The Swedish side proposed that Moroccan security services join the European Network of Fugitive Active Search Teams (ENFAST) system, recognizing Morocco’s effectiveness in dealing with cross-border crime. Additionally, there was an emphasis on learning from the Moroccan security model and expanding police cooperation.
Hammouchi’s visit included engagements with Swedish intelligence and internal security, particularly with Charlotte von Essen, Director General of the Swedish Security Service. Discussions highlighted the activities of terrorist groups in various global regions and addressed cyber and cross-border dimensions of organized crime.
The visit also featured tours of Swedish security service departments like central intervention units and cybercrime units. This underscores the significance of Morocco-Sweden security cooperation in global efforts to enhance security and stability, reinforcing both nations’ commitment to ongoing collaboration against security threats.
This trip reflects the DGSN-DGST hub’s dedication to building international security partnerships, aiming to bolster collective security and mitigate regional and global security threats.
