New ‘Casablanca-South’ Station Launches to Enhance Mobility and Reduce Traffic

Casablanca: The local trains serving the newly inaugurated ‘Casablanca-South’ station are set to provide efficient and cost-effective transportation for Casablanca residents, easing their daily commutes between home and work. This initiative was announced by ONCF Chief, Khlie, during the launch of major railway projects aimed at improving mobility within the Casablanca metropolitan area, with an investment of MAD 20 billion.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, these metropolitan commuter trains will operate on three high-frequency lines, each capable of carrying the equivalent of 1,300 cars. This capacity is expected to significantly reduce CO2 emissions and alleviate traffic congestion. The three lines include Line 1, which connects the Hassan II Grand Stadium in Benslimane to Mohammed V International Airport; Line 2, running between the Hassan II Grand Stadium and Casa-Port station; and Line 3, linking Casa-Port station to Mohammed V International Airport. Trains will run every 7.5 minutes on these li
nes.

An additional airport express line will link Casa-Port station with Mohammed V International Airport, offering a 15-minute frequency and stopping only at major stations. This development is part of a broader regional rail development program, which also plans to bolster regional train services to El Jadida and Settat. The program includes the construction of several commuter stations, three major stations, as well as technical centers and maintenance workshops.
