Portugal: Portugal, the guest of honor at the 18th International Agricultural Exhibition in Morocco (SIAM), is determined to strengthen its agricultural cooperation with the Kingdom, affirmed on Monday in Meknes the Portuguese Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, José Manuel Fernandes.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the Portuguese official stated that Portugal and Morocco are two friendly and neighboring countries, determined to strengthen their cooperation on several issues for the benefit of their peoples. He made these remarks to the press on the sidelines of the opening of the 18th edition of SIAM, which was chaired by HRH Prince Moulay Rachid.
Fernandes highlighted issues of climate change and drought, noting Portugal’s extensive experience and significant investments in these areas. He recalled the launch of an initiative in Portugal that aims to mobilize 5.4 billion pounds in the water sector by 2030.
The minister also stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation in animal and plant
health, particularly in research and innovation, and promoting vaccine accessibility and effectiveness. He advocated the development of new techniques to improve the resistance of plants, trees, and crops to diseases, drought, and climatic phenomena.
Fernandes expressed Portugal’s commitment to strengthening trade cooperation with Morocco and conveyed his honor at being selected as the guest of honor at SIAM. He hoped to meet the expectations associated with this distinction.
