Royal Atlantic Initiative Aims to Bolster Africa-South America Relations: Insights from Argentinian Political Scientist

Rabat: In a statement to MAP, Argentinian political scientist Burdman emphasized the geopolitical significance of the Royal Atlantic Initiative, which seeks to enhance cooperation, security, and sustainable development among nations bordering the Atlantic Ocean. He highlighted the strategic importance of the future port of Dakhla Atlantique, describing it as a crucial infrastructure link between the two Atlantic coasts.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Morocco’s geographical location provides it with a significant role in the geopolitical restructuring of the Atlantic basin. The Royal Atlantic Initiative, as Burdman noted, originates from a nation that has historically considered the Atlantic in its dual dimensions. This initiative is viewed as part of a comprehensive vision for the Atlantic, emphasizing maritime cooperation, security, and environmental sustainability as shared priorities.

Burdman also discussed the strategic connection between South America and Atlantic Africa, identifying them as “highly complementary” regions. He pointed out that South America exports foodstuffs in high demand in Africa, while the African continent offers essential energy and mineral resources. For this collaboration to be successful, Burdman argues that it should be rooted in investments in port and logistics infrastructure, enhanced maritime routes, and increased cooperation on maritime security.
