Russia, Morocco Aim to Enhance Strategic Partnership Through Increased Trade and Education Initiatives

Moscow: Russia and Morocco are committed to strengthening their traditionally cordial ties and strategic partnership, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced at a press conference alongside his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita. The two officials discussed the potential for boosting trade and economic exchanges, with a mutual interest in increasing the volume of trade and exploring reciprocal investment opportunities.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Lavrov stated that the potential for practical cooperation is far from exhausted, highlighting the upcoming 8th session of the Morocco-Russia Intergovernmental Joint Commission. This meeting, co-chaired by Bourita and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev, is anticipated to yield positive outcomes. Lavrov praised the high level of interaction across various sectors, particularly education, with 4,250 Moroccan students currently studying in Russia.

The foreign ministers emphasized stable and trusting contacts between their ministries, particularly at the United Nations and other international platforms such as the Russia-Africa and Russia-League of Arab States forums. A newly signed Memorandum of Understanding aims to bolster interaction and coordination between Russia and Morocco, deepening their strategic partnership.

Lavrov also noted that next year marks the tenth anniversary of the Joint Declaration on deepening their strategic partnership. The anniversary will be celebrated with a series of events, including exchanges of visits between sectoral departments, intensified contacts between parliamentarians, and the organization of Russian Culture Days in Morocco.
