Casablanca: The U.S. Consulate General in Casablanca inaugurated its new compound in the Casablanca Finance City district on Thursday during a ceremony attended by high-ranking Moroccan and American officials.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, notable dignitaries at the ceremony included His Majesty the King’s Advisor Fouad Ali El Himma; Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita; Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment, and Skills Younes Sekkouri; Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces and Commander of the South Zone Lieutenant General Mohamed Berrid; Wali of the Casablanca-Settat Region and Governor of the Casablanca Prefecture Mohamed M’hidia; President of the Casablanca-Settat Regional Council Abdellatif MaSzouz; and President of the Casablanca Communal Council Nabila Rmili.
The ceremony was also attended by U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau, U.S. Ambassador to Morocco Duke Buchan III, and U.S. Consul General in Casablanca Marissa Scott. Speaking at the event, Landau emphasized that this new Consulate will remain a lasting symbol of the enduring ties between the United States and Morocco.
“I could not be more happy or proud of the inauguration of this new compound. It is a wonderful representation of the friendship between our two countries,” he said, highlighting Morocco’s many assets, as well as the Kingdom’s development across various sectors and its appeal to foreign investors. He assured that the United States looks forward to continuing to work alongside the Kingdom towards strengthening the ties that unite the two countries in various fields.
Buchan III noted that this new Consulate is a lasting symbol of nearly 250 years of friendship between the United States and Morocco. “Morocco is a friend, ally, and partner of the United States. It is our longest, strongest, and most dependable ally in the region,” he stated. Reiterating his country’s support for Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara, he affirmed that it is high time to reach a peaceful solution to this dispute. “The path to peace is clear: Morocco’s autonomy proposal is the only solution,” he added.
The U.S. diplomat further stated that in an unstable and uncertain world, Morocco stands out as a pillar of stability, reliable and committed to numerous reforms. This progress is the result of the Leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, he affirmed, noting that Morocco “has rightly become a hub for investment, innovation, and opportunity.”
For her part, U.S. Consul General in Casablanca Marissa Scott told MAP that the inauguration of this new Consulate marks a special celebration of the 250th anniversary of the exemplary relations between Morocco and the United States. “This new building is ten times larger than our former headquarters,” she said, adding that it represents ten times more opportunities, ten times more people that can be here, and more people to assist and help.
The new U.S. Consulate in Casablanca reflects the enduring bonds of friendship between Morocco and the United States. Covering an area of nearly 2.7 hectares, this compound, which combines American design with Moroccan tradition, represents a total investment of over $350 million. The interior design reflects the interconnected nature of the U.S.-Morocco relationship. A carefully curated collection of Moroccan and American artworks fills the building with color, texture, and voice. Paintings, textiles, and sculptures create a quiet dialogue between cultures. Each piece speaks to shared values and the richness of both societies.
