Morocco: Morocco’s head coach Mohamed Ouahbi expressed confidence and composure on Thursday ahead of the Atlas Lions’ Group C World Cup encounter with Scotland, saying the national team is ready for a new challenge after their strong showing against Brazil.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of Friday’s game at Boston Stadium, Ouahbi said every match has its own challenges and requires different solutions on the pitch. ‘Tomorrow is a different game. Scotland will pose different problems, and we have to find the right answers,’ he said, stressing that all areas of his team are well prepared and that the squad is approaching the fixture with confidence and calm.
Reflecting on Morocco’s opening match against Brazil, the Moroccan coach described it as a highly technical and physically demanding contest. He expects the encounter with Scotland to be even more direct and intense from a physical standpoint. ‘The physical battle against Scotland will largely be
about winning second balls, but the most important thing is our ability to take control of the game,’ he said.
Ouahbi also emphasized the importance of making the right tactical decisions to allow his team to fully express itself against an opponent known for its commitment and fighting spirit. In that regard, he stressed that Scotland cannot be reduced to a single player. ‘It’s a generous, hard-working team that is about much more than Scott McTominay. They have several strengths and deserve our full attention,’ he explained.
Asked about the condition of his squad, the head coach offered a reassuring assessment, saying all players are in excellent shape both physically and mentally. ‘All the players are doing well. Their fitness levels and mindset are excellent,’ he assured.
Ouahbi also voiced confidence that the national team will continue to improve as the tournament progresses. ‘You’ll see this team continue to grow. It’s never easy to play your opening World Cup match against Brazil and stand toe-to-t
oe with them,’ he said.
Regarding the performance of young midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi against Brazil, Ouahbi said he was not surprised by his display. ‘Bouaddi is not a revelation to me. It is true that, given his age, his performance against Brazil was exceptional. He’s a young lad who knows how to remain grounded,’ he said.
While praising the young player, Ouahbi reiterated that the team’s strength lies above all in its collective spirit. ‘Every player is important, and everyone has a role to play in the success of this group’.
Morocco will take on Scotland in a crucial match for the remainder of their Group C campaign at the 2026 World Cup.
