Zimbabwean President Concludes Official Visit to Algeria with New Cooperation Agreements


Algiers: The President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Emmerson Mnangagwa, concluded a two-day official visit to Algeria, marking a crucial step in enhancing bilateral cooperation and elevating relations between the two countries.

According to Algeria Press Service, the visit resulted in the signing of several agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) aimed at reinforcing cooperation across various sectors. The agreements were signed following discussions between President Mnangagwa and his Algerian counterpart, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who co-chaired the signing ceremony.

In a joint press statement, President Tebboune emphasized that the visit underscored a shared political commitment to advancing bilateral relations. This commitment was demonstrated during the 4th session of the Algerian-Zimbabwean Joint Commission, which saw the signing of agreements in key areas. President Tebboune highlighted the establishment of a joint Business Council and the encouragement of economic operators to explo
re investment opportunities in both nations.

President Tebboune also spoke of a complete alignment of stances between Algeria and Zimbabwe, particularly in advocating for peaceful resolutions to African conflicts, respecting state sovereignty, rejecting foreign interference, and prioritizing African solutions to African challenges. The visit also provided a platform to reiterate condemnation of actions against the Palestinian people and support their right to establish an independent state.

The discussions further emphasized the cause of the Sahrawi people, with President Tebboune renewing support for United Nations efforts to enable their right to self-determination. Zimbabwe’s President Mnangagwa acknowledged Algeria as a friendly nation with deep-rooted relations founded on solidarity and the anti-colonial struggle, stressing the revolutionary nature of these ties.

President Mnangagwa expressed Zimbabwe’s unwavering solidarity with the Sahrawi people in their quest for self-determination and reiterated
support for dialogue to resolve the Palestinian conflict and address the challenging situation in Gaza.

The visit also included a business meeting to bolster economic cooperation and investment, with Zimbabwe’s president visiting key Algerian industrial sites, including the Scientific and Technological Hub in Sidi Abdallah and the Saidal Pharmaceutical Group in El-Harrach, to gain insights into Algeria’s production operations.
