Culture Minister Highlights Moroccan Caftan Show in Doha as a Pillar of Intangible Cultural Diplomacy.

Doha: The Caftan Fashion Show organized on Wednesday at ‘Dar Al Maghreb’ in Doha exemplifies the strength of Moroccan cultural diplomacy, specifically through its intangible aspects, according to Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication Mohammed Mehdi Bensaid. This prominent event was graced by Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa and H.E. Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al-Thani as a part of the Qatar-Morocco Year of Culture 2024.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Bensaid articulated in a press briefing during the event that the fashion show is a tribute to the caftan’s ancestral roots and the revival of this genuine Moroccan heritage across various regions of the Kingdom. He highlighted the collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication alongside the Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts and Social and Solidarity Economy, as well as civil society groups and professionals within the sector, to have the “Moroccan caftan” recognized by UNESCO as part of the intangible herita
ge list next year.

The fashion show, which attracted around 300 guests, showcased the talents of 10 Moroccan caftan designers. These designers translated their visions into unique garments that beautifully merged tradition with modern elements. The event was further enriched with musical performances that displayed the vast and diverse musical heritage of Morocco, drawing attention from numerous foreign ambassadors and notable figures from the art, culture, and business sectors.

Initiated by “Years of Culture,” the Qatar-Morocco Year of Culture 2024 is a testament to the profound and enduring ties between the two nations and their leaders, His Majesty King Mohammed VI and His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
