Eid Al-Adha: Royal Pardon for 1,376 People


Rabat: His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, has kindly granted His Pardon, on the occasion of Eid Al-Adha, to 1,376 people convicted by various Moroccan courts, some of whom are in detention and others at large, according to a statement from the Ministry of Justice.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the Royal Pardon includes a total of 1,356 individuals distributed between those in detention and those at liberty. Among the detained beneficiaries, 1,195 individuals have received pardons or commutations. This group includes 13 prisoners pardoned for their remaining prison terms, 1,180 prisoners who received a remission of imprisonment or confinement, one prisoner whose life sentence was commuted to a fixed-term sentence, and one prisoner whose death sentence was commuted to a life sentence.

For those at liberty, 161 individuals received pardons, including 63 individuals pardoned from their prison sentence or its remaining term, four individuals pardoned with their fines maintained, 78 indi
viduals whose fines were annulled, 15 individuals whose imprisonment terms and fines were annulled, and one individual whose fine and remaining prison term were annulled.

Additionally, His Majesty the King has extended his clemency to 20 prisoners convicted in cases of extremism and terrorism. These individuals were granted Royal Approval after they officially expressed commitment to the Nation’s principles and sacred values and revised their ideological views. The pardons in this category include a complete pardon of the fine and remaining prison sentence for two detainees, pardon of the remaining prison sentence for 12 detainees, and remission of custodial sentences for six detainees.
