RABAT: Morocco’s efforts in technology transfer and innovation received commendation from the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) during a workshop held in Rabat. The event, organized in collaboration with the Agency for Digital Development (ADD) and the National Center for Scientific and Technical Research (CNRST), highlighted Morocco’s rising status on the Global Innovation Index, moving from 70th to 66th position.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Nawar Al-Awa, ESCWA’s Regional Advisor on Technology for Development, emphasized the significance of Morocco’s advancements at the workshop. He attributed the country’s improved ranking to its sustained endeavors and ambitions to enhance its innovation landscape. Al-Awa also pointed out that the workshop served as a platform to evaluate both global and local experiences, while also discussing strategies for further strengthening technology transfer and innovation within Morocco.
The workshop underscored the potential of
digital and emerging technologies to foster innovation. Al-Awa advocated for a supportive ecosystem comprising suitable institutions, effective legal measures, and streamlined administrative procedures to nurture this potential.
Salma Karim, Head of the Human Capital and Innovation Department at ADD, elaborated on the process of technology transfer. She explained that it involves transitioning scientific and technological research from academic and research institutions to practical applications in industry or the market. Karim stressed the importance of adopting best practices, including identifying market needs, safeguarding intellectual property, and establishing strong partnerships, to ensure successful development and dissemination of innovations.
