European Parliament Upholds Agricultural Agreement with Morocco

Brussels: The European Parliament rejected a “motion of objection” on Wednesday, which was introduced by certain right-wing and far-right factions against the European Commission’s draft delegated act. This act is part of the execution of commitments under the Agreement through Exchange of Letters between Morocco and the EU, dated October 3, concerning the export of Moroccan agricultural products to the European market.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the European Parliament’s decision to ratify the delegated act presented by the European Commission effectively operationalizes the reference to Moroccan Sahara regions, in line with the Agreement. The act ensures that agricultural products from these regions enjoy the same preferential access to the European market as those from other parts of Morocco.

The exchange of letters signed in Brussels on October 3, 2025, by Morocco and the European Union, amends the agricultural agreement between the two parties. It affirms that the preferential market access conditions applicable to the rest of Morocco will also apply to agricultural products from the Southern provinces, under the Morocco-EU Association Agreement.

The agreement introduces technical adjustments aimed at facilitating product access and enhancing their value. Notably, it focuses on consumer information improvement through labeling, indicating the production regions as the South of the Kingdom, specifically “Laayoune-Sakia el Hamra” and “Dakhla-Oued Eddahab.”
