Guatemala and Morocco Pledge to Strengthen Bilateral Ties, Says Guatemalan Foreign Minister

Rabat: ‘Our countries are united, not only by age-old ties of friendship, but also by a common strategic vision, future-oriented and founded on political dialogue, acting cooperation and mutual respect,’ Alvarado underlined during a joint press briefing with Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the Guatemalan Foreign Minister emphasized the solid and excellent ties between the two ‘friendly, ally and partner’ countries and stressed the importance of further enhancing bilateral cooperation, particularly in the political, economic, and cultural domains. Alvarado highlighted the significance of sharing experiences in priority sectors such as migration management, security, food safety, and renewable energy.

The Guatemalan minister praised His Majesty King Mohammed VI for his regional and international leadership and acknowledged Morocco’s pioneering role in Africa under the guidance of the Sovereign. As the two countries approach the 55th anniversary of their diplomatic relations in 2026, Alvarado expressed appreciation for the ongoing bilateral consultations in international forums aimed at promoting global peace and security.

He noted that his visit to Morocco would further strengthen dialogue and cooperation between the two nations, driven by the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the President of the Republic of Guatemala, Bernardo Ar©valo. Addressing the Moroccan Sahara issue, Alvarado affirmed that Guatemala views the Autonomy Initiative presented by Morocco in 2007 as ‘the only serious, credible and realistic basis’ for achieving a lasting resolution to the conflict, respecting Morocco’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty.
