Rabat: “In recent years, Moroccan industry has experienced remarkable growth, illustrated by the growing momentum of the ‘Made in Morocco’ brand, which has become an essential lever for establishing the Kingdom’s position as a competitive industrial destination, both regionally and internationally,” Akhannouch said at the opening of National Industry Day (JNI), organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM). In this regard, he noted that the national industry, thanks to the High Guidelines of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, is ushering in a new era, placing the concept of sovereignty as both an objective and a means.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Akhannouch also recalled that the national industrial sector has achieved significant progress, particularly in high value-added sectors such as automotive and aeronautics. The automotive ecosystem has established itself as the leading export sector, accounting for around 40% of national industrial exports, and as the largest employer, with nearly 25% of all industrial jobs, he detailed, adding that Morocco is now the leading producer of passenger cars in Africa and the leading exporter of internal combustion engine vehicles to the European Union.
In parallel with this development, the Kingdom is working to enshrine its standing in the field of electric mobility by developing an integrated value chain, ranging from the supply of raw materials to the assembly of batteries, including the launch of pioneering projects that reflect the trust of international partners in the national industrial platform, Akhannouch pointed out.
In addition, he said that the aeronautics sector continues to make remarkable progress in exports, now comprising over 150 industrial players and recording growth of more than 61% in 2024 compared to 2021. According to the Head of Government, this momentum has been reinforced by the launch of major industrial projects, including the aircraft engine industrial complex in Casablanca, inaugurated by His Majesty King Mohammed VI on October 13.
With regard to the pharmaceutical and medical industry, a state-of-the-art industrial unit dedicated to vaccine manufacturing has been established, in addition to a partnership agreement signed on the sidelines of this National Industry Day to develop local production of pharmaceutical raw materials, Akhannouch mentioned. The aim, he continued, is to contribute to strengthening Morocco’s health sovereignty and consolidating its position as a regional hub for pharmaceutical production.
These results reflect the sustained momentum of the national industry and confirm Morocco’s role as a major player in global industrial and technological chains, the Head of Government stressed. To this end, he noted that in 2025, the Kingdom ranked 12th worldwide in terms of industrial production with medium and high technological content, according to the Global Innovation Index published by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Morocco’s best ranking in the last five years.
At the same time, Akhannouch said that the government, fully aware of the scale of the challenges facing the national industry in a global context marked by successive disruptions, and of the importance of preserving the sector’s momentum, has implemented a series of initiatives aimed at consolidating industrial sovereignty and strengthening the competitiveness of the ‘Made in Morocco’ label.
The government, he said, has continued to implement the Industrial Project Bank program, which has generated considerable enthusiasm among Moroccan project developers, with more than 1,900 projects. An industrial research and innovation program has also been rolled out in partnership with the CGEM to support companies from the scientific research phase through to industrial production, Akhannouch added, noting that since its launch in 2023, the program has funded 160 innovative projects, representing a total investment of nearly MAD 852 million.
“Morocco is also betting on energy transition to meet the challenge of carbon-free production and increase the competitiveness of its industry by facilitating its access to clean energy, particularly green hydrogen, as part of the ‘Morocco Offer’, which is of interest to the world’s leading players in the sector.”
Reaffirming that the industrial sector is at the heart of efforts to promote employment, particularly through the Employment Roadmap, Akhannouch assured that the work of this 3rd National Industry Day provides a valuable opportunity for participants to exchange ideas and discuss ways to develop the industrial sector and mechanisms to address current and future challenges. The aim is to help Morocco to strengthen its position among emerging economies and to reinforce its status as a promising industrial destination with strong appeal for national and international investors, he concluded.
Placed under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the National Industry Day is held until November 4 on the theme “Made in Morocco: a mark of quality, competitiveness, and a lever for integrated regional development.”
