Dakhla: Speaking at a ministerial plenary session held as part of the 5th edition of the MD Sahara Forum, under the theme “The Moroccan Sahara: 50 Years of Integration, Transformation, and Territorial Governance,” the minister emphasized that digitalization has become a structuring vehicle for inclusion, equal opportunity, and human development in the southern provinces, which are poised to become a strategic engine of Digital Morocco.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the minister remarked on the significance of meeting in Dakhla following the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2797. Dakhla symbolizes the Royal Vision of a Sahara that fosters South-South cooperation and African integration. The minister highlighted that digitalization is enhancing territorial unity by providing equal access to services, training, and economic opportunities, building on the momentum initiated by the Green March.
She further underlined the strategic importance of the upcoming green mega data center in Dakhla, which will have a capacity of 500 MW and be powered entirely by renewable energy. This project is seen as a cornerstone of the Kingdom’s digital sovereignty, supporting national data hosting, the sovereign cloud, and the competitiveness of businesses and public administrations. The center will also be available to African countries wishing to store their data there.
The project aligns with the Cloud Roadmap 2025-2030, which prepares for a sovereign, resilient, and competitive Digital Morocco. The 5th edition of the annual MD Sahara Forum opened in Dakhla under the theme ’50 Years of the Green March: National Unity and Continental Ambition.’
Held under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, this edition of the forum, organized by the media group Maroc Diplomatique, underscores the historical and political significance of the Green March and its role in Morocco’s contemporary strategies, particularly its leadership in regional integration and African cooperation.
The Forum serves as a platform for dialogue and reflection, bringing together government officials, economic actors, academics, and representatives of regional and international organizations over the two-day event.
