Rabat: Moroccan footballer Achraf Hakimi has been awarded the prestigious Lion d’Or award for the second year in a row. This achievement solidifies his standing as a prominent figure in African football and enhances his candidacy for the African Ballon d’Or. As a key player for the Atlas Lions, Hakimi’s consistent performances have earned him this accolade, making him the second Moroccan to receive the award following Yassine Bounou, who won the 15th edition.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the Paris Saint-Germain defender outperformed notable contenders such as Egypt’s Mohamed Salah and Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy. The selection came after an evaluation of performances, with Hakimi securing a commanding lead in points. The rankings reflect Hakimi at the top with 350 points, followed by Salah with 188 points, and Guirassy with 115 points.
