Moroccan and French Leaders Discuss Strengthening Parliamentary Cooperation


RABAT: Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch met with Yaël Braun-Pivet, President of the French National Assembly, during her working visit to Morocco aimed at enhancing parliamentary cooperation between the two nations. Both parties emphasized the longstanding ties between Morocco and France, which have been further solidified by the joint declaration on a “reinforced exceptional partnership” signed by HM King Mohammed VI and French President Emmanuel Macron.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the declaration, signed on October 28, 2024, is designed to address challenges through mobilizing all relevant sectors of bilateral, regional, and international cooperation. Akhannouch expressed appreciation for France’s support of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Moroccan Sahara and the autonomy initiative within Morocco’s territorial unity framework, describing it as the sole basis for resolving the regional dispute.

The meeting also highlighted the strategic partnership in Africa, reflecting the African Vision of
His Majesty King Mohammed VI. Both leaders recognized the importance of consultation and coordination on parliamentary issues of mutual interest and strengthening the roles of the Morocco-France Parliamentary Friendship Group.

Notable attendees included Naïma Moutchou, Vice-President of the French National Assembly; Damien Chamussy, Secretary-General of the Assembly; Bruno Fuchs, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee; and Christophe Lecourtier, French Ambassador to Rabat.
