Rabat: Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, Abdellatif Hammouchi, inked on Tuesday in Rabat, with his French peer, Louis Laugier, Director General of National Police, a Joint Action Plan between the National Police Services and France’s Directorate General of National Police. This action plan was signed on the occasion of Hammouchi’s meeting with Laugier, who was accompanied by the Ambassador of the French Republic to Rabat and a large security delegation comprising several directors of central directorates of the French National Police, according to a press release from the DGSN-DGST Cluster.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the joint roadmap aims to combat cross-border organized crime in the two countries. This initiative is part of the ongoing visit by the Director General of France’s Directorate General of National Police to Morocco, seeking to enhance security cooperation and reinforce mutual assistance mechanisms in various fields of police cooperation.
The significance of this plan lies in its ability to formalize the longstanding cooperation mechanisms between Moroccan and French police services. It aims to broaden the scope of collaboration, establishing joint working groups to tackle organized crime challenges, such as tracking international fugitives and wanted individuals.
The joint action plan promises to expand security cooperation and mutual assistance between Morocco and France, reflecting the strong ties and strategic partnership between the two nations in areas like training, information exchange, technical assistance, and operational collaboration.
Laugier expressed gratitude for the Moroccan police’s support in combating terrorism and organized crime, as well as their role in securing the upcoming Paris Olympic Games. He also conveyed France’s willingness to assist Morocco in securing future international sporting events.
During the visit, the Ambassador of the French Republic in Rabat, Christophe Lecourtier, presented Hammouchi with the insignia of Officer of the Legion of Honour. This prestigious award acknowledges the Moroccan police’s pivotal role in international anti-terrorism and organized crime efforts and underscores the effectiveness of security cooperation between the two countries.
Hammouchi engaged in intensive discussions with his French counterpart, evaluating bilateral cooperation in security, addressing shared interests, and exploring new cooperation mechanisms to address security threats effectively.
The visit highlights the robust cooperation between Moroccan national police services and the French National Police, demonstrating both parties’ commitment to strengthening mutual assistance and operational cooperation to enhance security preparedness against various threats.
