Rabat: Morocco is firmly committed to making the 2030 FIFA World Cup a model of environmental sustainability and social inclusion, according to Fouzi Lekjaa, the Minister Delegate in charge of the Budget and President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the organization of this major sporting event aligns with HM the King’s vision, placing sustainability at the heart of national public policy. Lekjaa, who also serves as Chairman of the 2030 World Cup Committee, emphasized the event’s capacity to drive ecological transition, viewing it as a pivotal opportunity to advance sustainable and inclusive development.
During a conference at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), Lekjaa articulated Morocco’s goal to leverage the tournament for urban, economic, and social transformation, in accordance with the New Development Model’s strategic guidelines. He stated, “Our ambition is clear: to make Morocco a key player in global football and an African model for sustainable sports development, balancing excellence with respect for the planet.”
Ilaria Carnevali, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Morocco, praised the initiative for promoting sustainability through sport. She noted Morocco’s exemplary approach in aligning its climate commitments with the global event, suggesting that the 2030 World Cup could serve as a model for integrating environmental goals while benefiting local communities and inspiring future generations.
The conference highlighted the 2030 World Cup as a historic opportunity for Morocco to accelerate structural transformations, supporting climate commitments, territorial development, and enhancing international influence.
