Rabat: Morocco’s Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka, met with Finnish Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Sari Essayah, in Rabat on Wednesday to discuss avenues for strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in water management and research.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Baraka emphasized that the meeting provided a platform for the exchange of experiences between Morocco and Finland in water management. He highlighted the achievements of their existing bilateral cooperation in this crucial sector.
Baraka indicated that the discussions centered on developing a joint roadmap by utilizing Finnish expertise, especially in flood management, smart groundwater management, and wastewater treatment and reuse in urban and industrial contexts. He underscored the significance of applied research and innovation in reinforcing this cooperation, noting that both countries will work together to share successful experiences.
Essayah expressed appreciation for the quality of the discussions w
ith her Moroccan counterpart. She noted that the meeting successfully identified several areas of mutual interest, particularly in water management, research, and innovation. Essayah commended Morocco’s progress in addressing water management challenges and expressed admiration for the country’s efforts.
Furthermore, the Finnish minister highlighted her country’s pioneering role in this sector and expressed a strong desire to enhance cooperation with Morocco. She conveyed confidence in the potential for a fruitful partnership between the two nations.
Essayah’s visit to Morocco, from March 24 to 27, is part of an effort to explore cooperation opportunities. She is accompanied by senior officials from various ministries to identify areas of shared interest.
