Montreal: Morocco and Gambia have formalized a new air transport agreement at the headquarters of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in Montreal. This agreement was signed by Morocco’s ambassador to Canada, Souriya Otmani, and the Gambian Minister of Transport, Works and Infrastructure, Ebrima Sillah. It aims to update the legal framework that governs the civil aviation relations between the two nations.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, this agreement is aligned with the Yamoussoukro Declaration, which focuses on liberalizing access to air transport markets across Africa, as well as the African Union’s Agenda 2063. Both countries have committed to maintaining high safety standards, cooperating against illicit acts, and resolving disputes through consultation or arbitration.
Mr. Sillah described the signing as “an important step” toward strengthening the bilateral relations between Morocco and Gambia. He emphasized the commitment of both countries to work collaboratively in achievin
g the objectives set forth by ICAO.
The ICAO Assembly, which is the sovereign body of the organization, convenes every three years as mandated by its governing Council. During these sessions, representatives from ICAO’s 193 member states and various international organizations gather to establish the organization’s worldwide policy for the next triennium. The Assembly also reviews ICAO’s comprehensive work program in areas including technical, economic, legal, and technical cooperation.
