Marrakech: Morocco possesses all the necessary assets to successfully host a global event such as the 2030 FIFA World Cup, Momar Diongue, Director General of the Senegalese Press Agency (APS), said on Wednesday. Speaking at a panel discussion in Marrakech during the 33rd General Assembly of the Alliance of Mediterranean News Agencies (AMAN), Diongue noted that Morocco is fully equipped in terms of infrastructure, logistics, and experience.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Diongue emphasized that Morocco is well-prepared with its infrastructure encompassing sports, telecommunications, transportation, and hospitality, making it capable of organizing the World Cup under optimal conditions. Diongue, who also serves on the executive board of the Atlantic Federation of African Press Agencies (FAAPA), highlighted the significance of Morocco as an African nation equipped for such an international event.
The 2030 tournament will be co-hosted by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal, marking the first time the World Cup spans both Europe and Africa. Diongue pointed out that Morocco’s strategic location and diplomatic stance have long established it as a bridge between continents. He expressed confidence that the joint tournament would foster closer ties between nations, reiterating the unifying power of sport.
Diongue also applauded Morocco’s footballing advancements, particularly its historic performance at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where the national team made history by becoming the first African side to reach the semi-finals.
The AMAN General Assembly, which continues through Thursday, features panel discussions, cooperation agreements, and the AMAN Awards for excellence in journalism and photography. The event has gathered heads of news agencies from across the Mediterranean. Opening remarks were delivered by Morocco’s Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, and FRMF President Fouzi Lekjaa, who also chairs the 2030 World Cup Committee.
