Rabat: The Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, met on Monday in Rabat with Yacoub Ould Salem Fall, the Minister Delegate to the Minister of the Interior, Decentralization and Local Development, in charge of Decentralization and Local Development of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, this meeting was part of the Mauritanian Minister’s working visit to Morocco, which spanned from May 4 to May 8. The visit was led by a significant delegation comprising senior officials from the Ministries of the Interior and Decentralization. The meeting emphasized the strong and cooperative relations between Morocco and Mauritania, guided by the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazwani. These relations aim to bolster South-South cooperation and foster solidarity in addressing current development challenges.
The discussions between the two parties highlighted Morocco’s experience in advanced regionalization and decentralization. They exchanged views on how to expand and develop cooperation between the two countries in this critical area. Both officials underscored the significance of decentralized cooperation as a crucial factor in promoting territorial governance and spatial development.
The meeting also focused on establishing effective partnerships between Moroccan and Mauritanian local authorities. The officials discussed the exchange of experiences and best practices in solid waste management, local services, urban development, territorial planning, and digital transformation. The Moroccan-Mauritanian decentralized cooperation was reviewed, noting the tangible progress achieved through joint projects by local authorities, setting the stage for a strategic partnership model.
This visit underscores the positive momentum in Moroccan-Mauritanian relations and the mutual desire to strengthen bilateral cooperation in territorial governance, reflecting the fraternity and complementarity between the two nations, as concluded by the Ministry.
