Rabat: During these talks, both parties emphasized the importance of exchanging experiences and best practices in public accounting and finance to enhance institutional governance, the House of Councillors said in a press release.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Haddad presented to the Zambian delegation, led by the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee of the Zambian National Assembly, Warren Chisha Mwambazi, an overview of the powers of the House of Councillors, including the review of annual reports from the Court of Auditors, the development of finance bills, and engagement with national public concerns.

He also recalled the historic visit of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to Zambia in 2017, which marked a significant foundation for transformations in the relations between the two countries by strengthening the legal framework governing bilateral cooperation through a set of agreements.

These agreements helped bolster political dialogue and boost economic relations, particularly in the fields of investment, energy, tourism, agriculture, food security, technology, and training, Haddad explained.

In this regard, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Councillors stressed the importance of the existing cooperation model between the two countries in reinforcing South-South cooperation, which is central to the African dimension of the Kingdom’s foreign policy. He recalled various Moroccan initiatives aimed at enhancing African integration, including the Royal Atlantic Initiative and the Africa-Atlantic Gas Pipeline Project.

After welcoming Zambia’s position in support of Morocco’s sovereignty over its Southern Provinces and expressing Morocco’s appreciation for this step – reflected in the opening of a Consulate General in Laayoune in October 2020 – Haddad emphasized the need to deepen parliamentary cooperation and coordination between the two countries’ legislatures within various parliamentary forums and bodies to defend African interests and address common challenges.

For his part, Mwambazi praised the Morocco-Zambia relations, marked by a track record in political, economic, and diplomatic cooperation. He highlighted the historic visit of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to Zambia and the outcomes of the High Joint Commission held in Laayoune in December 2024.

He also called for further efforts to elevate the level of these relations and capitalize on opportunities, particularly in the economic field, noting the importance of direct air links to make Morocco-Zambia cooperation a model that could strengthen regional integration in Africa.
