Lisbon: In a story published Monday by Portuguese daily “Di¡rio de Notcias,” the analyst emphasizes that this resolution affirms “a now established reality: the Autonomy Initiative is the only realistic, workable, and internationally lawful solution, as recognized by the majority of Security Council members.” He adds that this position reinforces the momentum of Moroccan diplomacy under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, by adopting this new resolution, the United Nations “reaffirms the central role of the Autonomy Plan, presented by Morocco in 2007, as a framework capable of ensuring a lasting political solution to this artificial regional conflict,” he writes.
Braga Pires also recalls that several major international powers-including the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Russia, and Spain, as well as Portugal and various EU member states-are today encouraging investment in the Kingdom’s Southern Provinces, which are viewed as a space of stability and development.
The Portuguese expert highlights the historic address to the Nation delivered by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, noting that the Sovereign underscored the new positive momentum surrounding the Sahara issue, supported by growing international recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over its Southern Provinces.
According to Braga Pires, “the call by His Majesty the King to the populations in the Tindouf camps to engage in national life and contribute to building their country reflects a sincere desire for unity rather than division, for inclusion rather than exclusion.”
He further notes that “the call by His Majesty the King upon the Algerian President to engage in a brotherly dialogue based on trust and good neighborliness reflects a clear-sighted vision aimed at building a Maghreb rooted in peace, complementarity, and shared development.”
The date of October 31, 2025, “will remain a milestone marking the beginning of the process toward a definitive resolution of the Moroccan Sahara issue,” Braga Pires asserts. He adds that the support expressed last July by the Portuguese government, led by the Social Democratic Party, for the Autonomy Plan has allowed Portugal “to stand on the side of law, justice, and historical common sense.”
