UNSC Resolution on Moroccan Sahara Reflects King’s Diplomatic Efforts

Rabat: “It is undeniable that the diplomacy led by HM King Mohammed VI was absolutely decisive” in the adoption of this historic resolution on the Moroccan Sahara, the former director of Canadian daily newspaper “Le Devoir” told Morocco’s news agency (MAP). The Security Council’s recognition of Morocco’s autonomy plan as the sole basis for resolving the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara marks “a major step forward” for peace in the region and backs up “the huge efforts” undertaken by the Kingdom to improve the living conditions of the inhabitants of the Moroccan Sahara, he added.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the Moroccan autonomy plan has become the only basis for a definitive settlement of the conflict over this territory “which historically belongs to Morocco,” Mr. Roy stated. The Canadian historian also highlighted the growing international support for the autonomy plan in the Kingdom’s Southern Provinces. “Disseminated worldwide and analyzed by United Nations member states, this autonomy plan has received the effective support of a majority of these countries,” he recalled.
