Rabat: Deputy Speaker of Morocco’s House of Councillors Lahcen Haddad met on Tuesday in Rabat with a delegation from the European People’s Party (EPP) at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). As part of efforts to bolster parliamentary cooperation with European institutions, this meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on ways to develop cooperation between the House of Councillors and the PACE, given the advanced relations between Morocco and the European Union (EU), according to a press release from the House.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, During the meeting, emphasis was placed on the importance of elevating these relations to a deeper partnership, based on shared responsibilities and common visions on issues of common interest. The two parties also examined several current political and socio-economic issues, notably migration and regional stability-particularly in the Sahel-as well as challenges of energy transition.
They noted the need to bolster coordination and adopt integrated approaches, in addition to exchanging expertise and experiences in the legislative and oversight fields. On this occasion, Haddad highlighted the Moroccan Parliament’s openness to its European environment, noting Morocco’s role as a reliable and active partner at the regional and international levels.
He further noted that effective partnerships are based on balance, shared commitment, and joint investment in stability, praising the growing role of parliamentary diplomacy in building trust among partners, particularly in an international context marked by rapid change. For their part, members of the EPP delegation commended Morocco’s experience in political reforms and the promotion of legislative action, reiterating their commitment to reinforcing dialogue mechanisms with the House of Councillors and expanding opportunities for cooperation, in the service of shared interests and the strategic partnership between Morocco and the EU, to counter growing global challenges.
The meeting was attended by Abdeslam Lebbar, president of the Istiqlal Group for Unity and Equality in the House of Councillors, as well as Allal Amraoui, president of the same group in the House of Representatives.
