Rabat: The success of the 35th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations hosted by Morocco (AFCON Morocco 2025) is the result of the Strategic Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and a long process of public investment, Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch stated on Tuesday in Rabat.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Akhannouch highlighted that the success of AFCON 2025 is rooted in the belief that sport is integral to the overall development project. He emphasized that sports officials, media professionals, experts, and supporters all recognized the edition hosted by the Kingdom as one of the best in the history of the continental tournament. This recognition covers areas such as the quality of stadiums, transport fluidity, security, services, record attendance, and media coverage.
Akhannouch further elaborated that a clear demonstration of this continental success is reflected in His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s expression. The King stated that by hosting the Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco achieved not o
nly a national feat but also a success for all of Africa, showcasing a continent capable of organizing major sporting events in a spirit of fraternity, reinforcing African solidarity.
In addressing challenges, Akhannouch noted that despite attempts at discrediting, the Sovereign affirmed that hostile efforts will never succeed in weakening the bonds formed over centuries among African peoples. The Head of Government emphasized that the exceptional organization of the tournament sends a strong message that Morocco, guided by the Vision of His Majesty the King, is committed to using sport as a means of development and enhancing Africa’s influence and potential.
Akhannouch continued by explaining that the High Royal Care is based on a comprehensive understanding of the role of sport, making it essential for improving quality of life, promoting individual advancement, and fostering social cohesion. He concluded that the discussion on sport should extend beyond technical or temporary aspects tied to a championsh
ip or results, urging a strategic dialogue that places sport at the core of the Kingdom’s development model.
