FAAPA as a Development Vehicle for African Information Space: Culture Minister

Marrakech: The Atlantic Federation of African Press Agencies (FAAPA) is being highlighted as a key institutional vehicle for cooperation, aimed at fostering a more coherent and visible African information space, as articulated by the Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the Federation is positioning itself as an essential framework for cooperation, enabling African press agencies to share expertise and enhance their professional capabilities, a sentiment expressed by Bensaid during a speech at the 9th General Assembly of FAAPA. The Assembly’s objective is to consolidate collective efforts, bolster synergies among African media institutions, and continue exploring the role of information in building a more inclusive Africa, focused on its territories and youth.

The Minister emphasized Morocco’s commitment to this domain, aligning with its African trajectory by promoting South-South cooperation grounded in partnership, solidarity, and the exchange of experiences. He also underscored the significance of territorial inclusion and spatial justice as guiding principles for public actions directed at stability and sustainable development.

Spatial justice, as noted by Bensaid, extends beyond the equitable distribution of investments or infrastructure. It involves acknowledging territories in the public domain and accurately representing their realities. The media, through their everyday endeavors, play a crucial role in illuminating public actions, fostering citizen engagement with policies and major projects, and enhancing social cohesion.

The 9th FAAPA General Assembly, taking place from January 28 to 30 in Marrakech, convenes Directors General of African press agencies affiliated with FAAPA, as well as experts, researchers, institutional officials, and decision-makers. Their focus is on strategizing the media’s role in supporting the continent’s transformations and contributing to more balanced, equitable development rooted firmly in territorial realities.
