Marrakech: The Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform and the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication signed a partnership agreement on Wednesday in Marrakech to promote the digitization of services offered by the National Library of the Kingdom of Morocco (BNRM), on the sidelines of the 3rd edition of Gitex Africa (April 14-16).
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the agreement was signed by the Minister Delegate for Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, and the Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid. The initiative aims to revamp BNRM’s institutional portal and enhance services related to digital books and legal deposits.
The agreement also focuses on the digitization of old periodicals, documents, and historical manuscripts available at the BNRM. It includes the development of a software program dedicated to serving people with special needs.
Moreover, the initiative seeks to make donated book collections accessible to student researchers through digitization. Bensaid highlighted the ministry’s commitment to digitalizing services to make cultural activities more accessible to citizens, with a particular focus on young people.
He noted that although the National Library is based in Rabat, its digitized services can be accessed throughout the Kingdom. Additional services, such as the “Youth Pass,” will soon be digitized to streamline processes and expand offerings.
