Governments Urged to Make Investment in Children Priority for Next G7 Summit

Rabat: Participants in a high-level panel discussion held Friday at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) in Rabat, as part of the 2026 Spring Meeting of the Paris Peace Forum, spoke of making investment in children a global priority at the upcoming G7 Summit in Evian.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, during the discussions, speakers emphasized the need to rethink investment in children in the face of global crises, urging governments to prioritize investment projects in the areas of education, health, child protection, and nutrition to safeguard the fundamental rights of children worldwide, particularly in conflict zones.

Speaking at the event, Senior Advisor at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for International Partnerships (INTPA) Sandra Bartelt reaffirmed the EU’s financial commitment through mobilizing $6 billion (representing 13% of its multiannual budget) to promote education in 80 partner countries, as part of the ‘Global Gateway’ strategy.

In a macroeconomic context marked by difficult choices, investing in children is the most powerful and unifying lever for human development, UNICEF’s representative in Morocco, Laura Bill, told MAP, insisting that health, education, nutrition, protection, and psychosocial development form the foundation of long-term global stability.

For her part, Resident Representative of the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) Asmae Boureddaya called in a similar statement for pooling efforts to address the current fragmentation of initiatives and budgets, noting the historic opening of AUDA-NEPAD’s very first representative office in Morocco.

Organized by the Paris Peace Forum in partnership with OCP Group and UM6P, the spring meeting, themed ‘Resilient Transitions,’ brings together political leaders, heads of international organizations, experts, investors, and civil society actors to identify emerging priorities, build coalitions of stakeholders, and explore concrete solutions to address global challenges.
