Kenitra: The Kenitra-Marrakech High-Speed Rail, whose construction was inaugurated by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, is set to become a significant catalyst for the national economy, as stated by Minister of Transport and Logistics Abdessamad Kayouh.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Kayouh highlighted during a press statement that this infrastructure project will dramatically shorten travel times between several major cities in the Kingdom, offering up to 70% reduction compared to current travel durations. This advancement is expected to enhance citizen mobility and improve connectivity between key urban centers such as Rabat, Casablanca, and Marrakech, including serving major airports.
The Kenitra-Marrakech High-Speed Rail initiative, with an investment of MAD 53 billion (excluding rolling stock), is a crucial component of a larger program involving a total investment of MAD 96 billion. This program also covers the procurement of 168 trains for MAD 29 billion aimed at renewing the Moroccan National Railways Office’s (ONCF) fleet and supporting ongoing development efforts. Furthermore, an allocation of MAD 14 billion will ensure the maintenance of performance, facilitating the establishment of three metropolitan transport networks in the Casablanca, Rabat, and Marrakech areas.
