Marrakech: Morocco’s Maghreb Arab Press Agency (MAP) was chosen to hold the presidency of the Alliance of Mediterranean News Agencies (AMAN) for the 2025-2026 period in Marrakech on Thursday.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, during the 33rd General Assembly of the Mediterranean Alliance, which took place on May 28-29 in the Red city, MAP, represented by its Director General Fouad Arif, received the rotating presidency of AMAN from the outgoing president, CEO of the Italian News Agency (ANSA) Stefano de Alessandri. The event was attended by Managing Directors, representatives of member agencies, and observers.
Fouad Arif emphasized that AMAN has consistently represented collaboration across the Mediterranean region, driven by a mutual commitment to dialogue and progress. “As I assume this role, I pledge to nurture and promote these core values. Together, we will continue to build a resilient alliance, one that adapts steadfastly to challenges and that seizes opportunities,” he stated.
The AMAN President also celebrated the return of the Mauritanian, Libyan, and Syrian press agencies to the Alliance, a development confirmed at the 33rd General Assembly. “Your presence here reaffirms the inclusive spirit and collective strength of our alliance,” Arif remarked to the three agencies involved.
Arif expressed his determination to advance the Alliance’s shared vision, centered on unity and dialogue, and called for the creation of bridges of knowledge, trust, and opportunity that surpass borders and generations.
The assembly also marked the election of a new AMAN Secretary General, Branka-Gabriela Vojvodic, Director General of the Croatian News Agency (HINA). Additionally, member agencies agreed to host AMAN’s 34th General Assembly in Bosnia-Herzegovina in 2026.
