Micronesia Affirms Sahara as Integral Part of Morocco’s Territory

New york: The statement asserting that “The Sahara is, and always has been, an integral part of Morocco’s territory” was made clear by Micronesia during a significant bilateral meeting. This meeting took place between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and his Micronesian counterpart, Lorin S. Robert, on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly High-level Week.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, during this pivotal meeting, a cooperation roadmap for the years 2025-2027 was signed, aligning with the High Guidelines of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. This roadmap underscores Morocco’s dedication to South-South cooperation and solidarity with developing nations. As part of the roadmap, Micronesia has firmly expressed its support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara, including the Kingdom’s sovereignty over its Southern Provinces, and the Moroccan autonomy plan as the sole solution to the regional dispute concerning the Moroccan Sahara.

The Pacific island nation of Micronesia declared its position by stating, “the Sahara region is and has always been an integral part of Moroccan territory,” while also applauding “Morocco’s serious and credible efforts to achieve a realistic, pragmatic, and lasting political solution based on compromise to the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.”

Moreover, Micronesia endorsed the Moroccan Initiative for autonomy within the framework of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco, emphasizing it as the exclusive solution to the regional dispute in line with Security Council resolutions since 2007, including Resolution 2756 of October 31, 2024.

This stance by Micronesia significantly strengthens the international momentum backing Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara and the Moroccan Autonomy Plan as the definitive resolution to this regional issue. Furthermore, Micronesia expressed gratitude to His Majesty King Mohammed VI for Morocco’s commitment to deepening relations with Pacific Island States and praised the Sovereign’s Vision for South-South cooperation, which positions Morocco and the Sahara region as key partners for countries in the Global South.

Morocco, through this roadmap, reaffirms its commitment to sharing its expertise and supporting Micronesia’s development priorities, thus fostering enhanced cooperation and mutual growth.
