Ifrane: The Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity is set to launch a local medical campaign dedicated to cataract surgery on May 30 at the Provincial Hospital Center (CHP) of Ifrane, targeting underprivileged populations from the Ifrane province.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the Foundation will provide support for 150 cataract surgeries as part of its ongoing efforts to bring healthcare closer to rural communities. The beneficiaries of this initiative come from twelve communes in Ifrane and Azrou municipalities, including Timahdit, Dayet Aoua, Tleguit, Bekrit, Sidi El Makhfi, and Ain Louh. These individuals were identified among patients screened by the Foundation’s connected medical mobile unit based in Sidi El Makhfi and at the Ifrane Provincial Hospital.
On May 7 and 8, additional outreach and pre-screening operations were conducted by Foundation teams across four sites: central Ifrane, Sidi El Makhfi, Timahdit, and Azrou. A total of 911 consultations were conducted by general practitioners, ophthalmologists, and laboratory technicians mobilized by the Foundation. This phase aimed to diagnose new cases requiring surgery and assess the general health status of all patients through comprehensive pre-operative evaluations.
The surgical procedures, scheduled for May 30 and 31, will take place at the CHP of Ifrane, where two operating rooms with four surgical stations have been prepared for the campaign. The initiative is supported by institutional and community partners in the Fez-Mekn¨s region. A multidisciplinary medical team of over 50 professionals, including volunteer ophthalmic surgeons and operating room staff from the CHP of Ifrane, will execute the surgeries. The team will be backed by the Foundation’s staff to provide comprehensive support and follow-up care for all beneficiaries.
Local authorities, regional and provincial health and social protection departments, the CHP of Ifrane, the Hassan II University Hospital Center in Fez, and the “Friends of the Visually Impaired in F¨s” Association are participating in the campaign.
Between January and April 2025, the Foundation organized four multidisciplinary and specialized medical campaigns in the provinces of Zagora, Tan-Tan, Berkane, and Taounate, benefiting 11,272 individuals, including 7,410 women. These operations included 334 surgical procedures and 23,461 medical consultations and specialized treatments.
This campaign is part of the Foundation’s continued efforts to improve healthcare access for rural populations and contribute sustainably to the enhancement of their living conditions.
