N’Djamena: Morocco’s National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) and the Chadian National Electricity Society (SNE) inked on Monday in N’Djamena, two contracts as part of an integrated rural electrification project powered by solar generation in Chad. Initialed by ONEE Managing Director Tarik Hamane and SNE Managing Director Saleh Ben Haliki, the two contracts for this project are part of ONEE’s ongoing development in Africa, as well as sharing expertise in the electricity field with various countries on the continent.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, this integrated project is financed by the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) as part of the ONEE-IDB initiative to support rural electrification in sub-Saharan Africa. It aims to improve access to electricity in rural areas of Chad. The project involves the construction of mini grids powered by a 3 MWp solar plant, as well as a 15/33 kV substation to supply 20 localities.
The first contract focuses on providing technical assistance for the completion of the construction of the solar power plant, the installation of distribution networks, and a substation. The second contract aims to enhance the skills of SNE’s managers and technicians.
Additionally, a framework agreement has been signed wherein ONEE commits to offering technical assistance to SNE to improve performance while ensuring a transfer of skills to SNE’s engineers and technicians. The signing ceremony was attended by Moroccan Ambassador to N’Djamena Abdellatif Erroja and IDB representative in Chad Najib Amine.
