Morocco and Norway Engage in Talks to Strengthen Maritime Fisheries Cooperation

Rabat: Morocco and Norway are discussing ways to enhance their maritime fisheries partnership, emphasizing sustainable management of marine resources and combating illegal fishing. This collaboration is guided by the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and King Harald V of Norway.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the discussions between representatives Driouich and Seland underscored the strategic significance of cooperation in areas such as control, traceability, and the modernization of fishing activity monitoring tools. A key focus was on the development of sustainable aquaculture, with an emphasis on skills development and training through a program supported by Norway and the Netherlands in partnership with the FAO. Both countries are keen on establishing structural projects like the STADIF project and exploring new forms of cooperation in specialized, high-level training to foster an African model for aquaculture training and development.

The talks also addressed the global fisheries sector’s main challenge: the impacts of climate change on marine ecosystems and fishery resource availability. To tackle this, both parties highlighted the importance of strengthening scientific cooperation, innovation, and multilateral coordination to support adaptive and resilient management policies.
