Rabat: The Morocco Gaming Expo, the first of its kind on the African continent, plays a leading role in strengthening and consolidating the concept of the video game industry, Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid emphasized on Tuesday in Rabat.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the minister highlighted during the opening ceremony of the 3rd edition of the Morocco Gaming Expo, chaired by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, that the Kingdom has been investing in the gaming industry over recent years. This sector is poised to create new jobs and contribute to the cultural economy’s development within the country.
Globally, the video game industry represents more than 300 billion dollars. Morocco aims to capture 1% of this global turnover by 2030 or 2032, Bensaid noted. The minister pointed out that several specialized companies are active in this sector in Morocco, with the number of video game start-ups increasing from three or four in 2022 to over 40 nationwide.
The minister underscored that this burgeoning industry presents an opportunity to generate new jobs and enhance the national economy, while also contributing to raising the profile and international presence of the Moroccan economy.
