Morocco Hosts 19th World Water Congress to Address Global Water Challenges


Rabat: Morocco is hosting the 19th edition of the World Water Congress, a significant event held under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, themed “Water in a Changing World: Innovation and Adaptation.” At a press conference, Sahibi highlighted that this gathering underscores Morocco’s commitment to fostering a resilient and sustainable water future through innovation, cooperation, and collective responsibility.



According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Morocco, guided by the leadership of King Mohammed VI, has placed water security at the forefront of its national policy and development agenda. The Kingdom has proactively renewed its water policy, focusing on innovation to enhance its water resources. This proactive vision is aimed at addressing global water challenges by prioritizing innovation to devise suitable solutions and anticipate resilient alternatives.



IWRA President Yuanyuan Li remarked on the significance of hosting this edition in Morocco, emphasizing the country’s enduring role in water governance and innovation. Li pointed out that the Congress is taking place amid significant global changes, such as the effects of climate change, population growth, water scarcity, and quality issues.



Li further noted that this year’s theme highlights the critical need to rethink water management strategies, considering climate uncertainties, pressures on water resources, technological advancements, and the necessity for inclusive governance. The 19th World Water Congress aspires to serve as a platform for sharing knowledge, innovations, and research findings, promoting collaboration among various sectors, and showcasing Morocco’s expertise in managing water resources, especially in arid regions, desalination, and non-conventional water resources.
