Morocco Implements Regulated Framework for Therapeutic Cannabis Use

Casablanca: Morocco now has an operational and regulated framework for therapeutic cannabis, with a structured supply already available, Director General of the National Agency for the Regulation of Cannabis-Related Activities (ANRAC), Mohamed El Guerrouj, said on Saturday in Casablanca.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, El Guerrouj made these remarks at the opening of the first scientific conference on the therapeutic use of cannabis, organized by ANRAC in partnership with the Moroccan Society of Medical Sciences (SMSM). He announced that more than 140 cannabis-based products have been manufactured by Morocco’s pharmaceutical industry and officially registered with the Moroccan Agency for Medicines and Health Products (AMMPS). These products are accessible through over 600 outlets authorized by the AMMPS. El Guerrouj praised the strong mobilization of the pharmaceutical community in support of this initiative.

El Guerrouj further noted that Morocco has successfully transitioned beyond the agricultur
al and industrial production stages of cannabis. However, he acknowledged that the therapeutic use of cannabis-derived products remains relatively limited. He emphasized the responsibility of scientific societies, prescribing physicians, and medical researchers to expand therapeutic applications and develop new forms of medical use for cannabis-based products. He highlighted the crucial role of scientific societies as a bridge toward broader therapeutic use of cannabis products, which would also support the sustainability of activities undertaken by small-scale farmers.
