Morocco Showcases Educational Agriculture Project at FAO World Food Forum

Rome: Morocco has unveiled a pioneering educational agriculture initiative at the FAO World Food Forum, highlighting the nation’s efforts to engage youth in sustainable farming practices. This ambitious project, known as the “Global Youth Challenge,” involves students from LM6E Benguerir in an immersive educational and scientific experience, guided by their teachers and experts from UM6P University.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the young Moroccan participants are actively involved in managing a teaching farm and implementing an integrated ‘From Seed to Feed’ model. This approach encompasses all stages of the agricultural value chain, including soil analysis, water management, responsible fertilization, and product development. The project also features activities aimed at raising awareness about climate change, conserving natural resources, and promoting agricultural careers as viable future paths.

Supported by the OCP Foundation, in collaboration with OCP North America, the Association for the Promotion of Excellence in Education (APEE), LM6E in Benguerir, and Canadian organizations, the initiative underscores Morocco’s commitment to engaging youth in the global transition of agricultural and food systems. During the project presentation, Abdellah Larhmaid, Morocco’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN agencies in Rome, emphasized the significant role of students from the Mohammed VI High School of Excellence in Benguerir. He noted that their participation illustrates the potential of Moroccan youth as a driving force in the future of food systems.

Launched by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Food Forum annually gathers youth, scientists, policymakers, and private sector stakeholders to expedite the transformation of global food systems. This forum provides a platform for innovative projects like Morocco’s, which aligns with both national priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals.
