Morocco’s Ministry of Digital Transition and Mistral AI Sign MoU for AI Cooperation


Rabat: Morocco’s Ministry of Digital Transition and Mistral AI have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to cooperate on advancing artificial intelligence (AI) initiatives. The agreement was signed by the Minister Delegate for Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, Amal El Fallah, and Mistral AI’s co-founder and CEO, Arthur Mensch. The signing ceremony was attended by high-level officials, including the Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, Omar Seghrouchni, President of the National Commission for the Control of the Protection of Personal Data (CNDP), Khalid Safir, Director General of the Caisse de D©p´t et de Gestion (CDG), and Nezha Hayat, Director General of the Mohammed VI Fund for Investment.



According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, this agreement aligns with Morocco’s strategic efforts to enhance its digital transition and establish itself as a regional technology hub. The MoU is aimed at fostering innovation in AI, with specific projects targeting the linguistic field to promote AI usage in this area.



El Fallah emphasized the significance of Mistral AI’s recent fundraising, which sets the stage for collaboration with Morocco. She highlighted that the agreement supports the development of AI programs in accordance with the National AI Conference’s initiatives. Mensch expressed Mistral AI’s enthusiasm to work with Morocco, noting that the company already partners with public services globally and seeks to expand its presence in the Kingdom through public and private sector partnerships.



The partnership aims to cultivate local AI expertise through training, research, and knowledge exchange, and to encourage the emergence of startups and industrial projects based on AI solutions that cater to Moroccan companies’ needs. It also focuses on promoting the ethical and responsible use of AI, ensuring data protection and citizen trust, and enhancing Morocco’s status as a reference in AI and digital innovation within the region and across Africa.



This collaboration underscores a mutual commitment to integrating technological innovation with digital sovereignty and international cooperation, establishing AI as a catalyst for economic competitiveness, public service modernization, and social progress.
