Morocco’s Top Police Chief and French Security Head Discuss Counterterrorism and Bilateral Cooperation in Rabat


Rabat: Morocco’s top police chief recently held discussions in Rabat with France’s Director General of Internal Security, focusing on enhancing bilateral cooperation mechanisms in the security field. The dialogue aimed at strengthening the Morocco-France partnership to tackle current security challenges, particularly terrorist threats in conflict zones, with a specific emphasis on the Sahel-Saharan region.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the officials stressed the need to increase joint security operations between Moroccan internal security services and their French counterparts. These collaborative efforts have consistently demonstrated their effectiveness in neutralizing numerous terrorist threats at both regional and international levels.

During the meeting, the French Director General of Internal Security acknowledged the crucial role of Moroccan security services in ensuring the safety of the upcoming 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris. Discussions also included coordination strategies for the
Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) in 2025, hosted by Morocco, and the 2030 FIFA World Cup, to be co-hosted by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal. This encompassed the exchange of expertise and operational data to combat major threats to public security.

The talks further delved into strengthening bilateral cooperation between Morocco’s and France’s internal security services to combat various hostile activities, including foreign espionage. The meeting underscored the significance of Moroccan-French collaboration in security as a model of comprehensive cooperation, particularly in tackling terrorism, extremism, and irregular migration. The shared vision of both countries aims to develop proactive measures to address cross-border criminal and terrorist threats.
