Dakar: Morocco’s Water Minister and his Senegalese counterpart recently engaged in discussions to enhance bilateral cooperation in water and sanitation. The ministers focused on sharing experiences and identifying new prospects for collaboration in this critical sector.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Director of Sanitation at the Senegalese Ministry of Hydraulics and Sanitation, Omar Sene, stated that the partnership is being solidified through a realistic action plan set to be implemented by 2027. This collaboration, formalized by an agreement signed in January 2023 in Rabat, showcases the alignment of priorities and a shared vision on the international stage between Morocco and Senegal.
Sene highlighted that the meeting in Dakar enabled the two nations to align their positions, identify joint priorities, and plan for further discussions at a meeting scheduled in Morocco in December. This upcoming meeting aims to launch the implementation process of the bilateral action plan.
In addition to the primary discussions, Morocco’s Water Minister, Baraka, conducted several bilateral talks with other African ministers responsible for the water sector. These discussions emphasized the development of unconventional water resources, seawater desalination using renewable energies, energy efficiency, and the enhancement of public-private partnerships.
