On High Instructions of HM the King, Gov’t Head Inaugurates Moroccan Pavilion at 61st Venice Biennale

Venice: On High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch inaugurated the Moroccan Pavilion at the 61st Venice Biennale International Art Exhibition on Friday. On this occasion, Akhannouch, accompanied by a large delegation including Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid; President of the National Museum Foundation (FNM) Mehdi Qotbi; Moroccan Ambassador to Rome Youssef Balla; Moroccan Consul General in Verona Abdelilah Nejjari; and Commissioner of the Kingdom of Morocco Pavilion Mohamed Benyacoub visited the national pavilion located at the heart of the historic Venetian Arsenal.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the “As???a” project, led by artist Amina Agueznay and curator Meryem Berrada, represents Morocco at this major art exhibition, held at the Doges through next November. The Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication issued a call for proposals for the design, production, and creation of an exhibition at the Moroccan Pavilion, which gathered 29 submissions from national artists and curators. The winning project was selected following deliberations by the jury chaired by Qotbi.

This artistic project reflects the multifaceted richness of Moroccan heritage and its contemporary reach, highlighting artistry as a vehicle for storytelling, in perfect harmony with the overall theme of this edition: ‘In Minor Keys.’ The Kingdom’s participation in this 61st Venice Biennale is a unique opportunity to highlight rich and diverse Moroccan artistic creations, while engaging in a global dialogue on the transformations and innovations of contemporary art.

Founded in 1895, the Venice Art Biennale is among the most prestigious events on the international art scene. Held every two years, alternating with the Architecture Biennale, it is deemed a must-attend event in the art world.
