Princess Lalla Asmaa Champions Childhood Deafness Initiatives at African Congress


Bjijou: In a speech delivered on behalf of the President of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Science and Health, Prof. Lahcen Belyamani, at the opening ceremony of the 1st African Congress on Pediatric Cochlear Implantation, chaired by Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Asmaa, Bjijou highlighted Her Royal Highness’s commitment to socially impactful causes.



According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Her Royal Highness’s presence at the Congress adds both strategic and moral significance, reaffirming the Kingdom’s dedication, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, to social inclusion and human development. Bjijou emphasized HRH Princess Lalla Asmaa’s devotion through the NASMAA project and the “Together, we Hear Each Other Better” program, involving 21 countries, which exemplifies South-South cooperation, ensuring every African child has the right to hear and thrive.



He further elaborated on Her Royal Highness’s involvement through the Lalla Asmaa Foundation, which has enabled countless children to regain their hearing, allowing them effective access to education and community participation. He stated that childhood deafness poses a challenge to the entire social and educational system, underscoring the importance of structured care pathways that include early screening, diagnosis, surgical intervention, speech therapy, and long-term follow-up.



The signing of an agreement between the Lalla Asmaa Foundation and the Mohammed VI Foundation for Science and Health signifies a commitment to building a multisectoral ecosystem aligned with the vision of an inclusive Morocco. Bjijou emphasized that the Congress focuses on inclusion and cooperation, aiming for full citizenship for deaf children, supported by equity of access, family support, and African solidarity.



The discussions at the Congress aim to enhance practices, improve care protocols, and integrate technological advancements in medical engineering and audiology, transforming hearing quality and rehabilitation trajectories.
