Rabat: The Secretary General of the United Nations Tourism Organization, Zurab Pololikashvili, praised the strategic vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI for advancing tourism in Morocco during a visit to Rabat. This commendation was given on Monday, highlighting the significant progress made in the tourism sector following challenges such as the Covid-19 pandemic and the Al-Haouz Earthquake.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Pololikashvili stated that the King’s vision has propelled Morocco’s tourism figures into an upward trajectory, setting an ambitious target of over 17 million visitors by 2024. This milestone is one that many countries have struggled to reach over the past four years, underscoring the effectiveness of Morocco’s approach. The Secretary General made these remarks during a press briefing after meeting with Nasser Bourita, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates.
Pololikashvili emphasized that Morocco’s Royal Vision has facilitated the country’s ability to host significant sporting events, including the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 and the World Cup 2030. These events are expected to further drive the influx of tourists, bolstering the Kingdom’s status as a prime destination. He noted that the World Cup, as a pinnacle of global events, presents an exceptional opportunity to enhance tourism and attract more visitors to Morocco.
Additionally, Pololikashvili highlighted the collective efforts of the government and stakeholders in enhancing the tourism sector through high-quality offerings and services. This comprehensive development strategy has led to the United Nations Tourism Organization’s decision to establish a Thematic Office in Morocco, aimed at nurturing a robust and sustainable tourism ecosystem in the country.
