Tangier: The Instituto Cervantes in Tangier opened its doors Friday evening to El Salvador: Belleza en Colores (Beauty in Colors), a new exhibition showcasing contemporary Salvadoran art.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the exhibition is organized by the Embassy of El Salvador in Morocco in partnership with the Instituto Cervantes of Tangier. It features 23 works by 17 artists from the Central American nation, reflecting a variety of styles including urban graffiti, traditional portraiture, and vivid landscapes.
Notable participating artists include Madger Linares, Renacho Melgar, and Carlos Ovidio Rosales, whose works delve into themes of identity, memory, and the natural beauty of El Salvador. Their creations offer visitors insights into Salvadoran culture.
Ignacio de Cossío, El Salvador’s ambassador to Morocco, highlighted the significance of the exhibition as the largest showcase of Salvadoran art in Africa. He remarked, ‘These works reflect a deep-rooted memory within Salvadoran society and s
howcase the natural wealth of our homeland.’
Ambassador de Cossío praised Tangier as a center of cultural exchange, describing it as an international and hospitable city, a true crossroads of civilizations. Juan Vicente Piqueras, director of the Cervantes Institute in Tangier, noted the growing interest among Moroccan audiences in Ibero-American art and culture, emphasizing the role of such exhibitions in fostering dialogue between Morocco, the Arab world, and Hispanic cultures.
During the event, the ambassador presented an acknowledgment plaque to Omar Kadaoui, Honorary Consul of El Salvador in the northern region of Morocco and president of the Moroccan-Salvadoran Association of Friendship and Cooperation, in recognition of his efforts to strengthen ties between the two nations.
