10th FAAPA Executive Council Meeting Concludes in Libreville


Rabat: The 10th Executive Council meeting of the Atlantic Federation of African Press Agencies (FAAPA) has successfully concluded in Libreville. The meeting featured a detailed presentation by FAAPA Secretary-General Mohamed Anis, who highlighted the 2024 activity report along with various programs and projects initiated by the federation for its member agencies.



According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the Secretary-General recalled the recent organization of a training session for photojournalists from member agencies in October, the establishment of the Pan-African Network of FAAPA Photojournalists, and the federation’s participation in several seminars. The council members reviewed the final report from the 8th FAAPA General Assembly, which took place on January 21-22 in Rabat-Sal©. They also discussed the editorial output of the FAAPA portal, noting that it had produced over 10,100 stories from January 1 to September 30, 2025.



The meeting also addressed the financial contributions of FAAPA member agencies for 2025, acknowledging the agencies that met their financial commitments promptly. Additionally, the council selected winners for the FAAPA Media Grand Prix in categories such as best article, best photo, and best video report.



The proceedings commenced on Wednesday with the presence of the Vice President of the Gabonese government, Alexandre Chambrier, and the Gabonese Minister of Communication and Media, Paul-Marie Gondjout. In his opening remarks, attended by members of the Gabonese government and Morocco’s ambassador to Gabon, Abdellah Sbihi, FAAPA President Fouad Arif stressed the importance of press agencies reclaiming their role as the primary and legitimate sources of information, highlighting the need to safeguard informational sovereignty.



Founded on October 14, 2014, FAAPA aims to create strategic partnerships and foster professional relationships between news agencies. It also seeks to ensure the free flow of information and enhance cooperation and coordination on regional and international platforms.
